Student Travel Award

Student Travel Award Eligibility Requirements

The Society of Clinical Geropsychology (SCG; Division 12, Section 2) invites applications for its Trainee Travel Award to support trainees who want to attend the GSA 2026 convention in National Harbor, MD, from November 4-7 in person.

Eligibility requirements include student membership in SCG (requiring current enrollment in a graduate psychology program OR a post-doctoral fellowship) with an interest in the scientific or professional aspects of clinical geropsychology and attendance of the GSA 2026 convention in person. Priority will be given to international trainees, first-generation graduate students, trainees presenting research, trainees who do not have other sources of funds for conferences, and trainees who are attending the convention for the first time. We also welcome applications from trainees who meet some or none of these priority criteria. Applicants will submit a 250–300-word statement detailing the following:

  1. Whether you will attend GSA 2026 in person*
  2. Your status as a first-generation graduate student or as an international trainee (if applicable; an international trainee is considered a student or post-doctoral fellow who does not hold permanent residency/citizenship in the US)
  3. Whether you are presenting research or are attending the convention for the first time
  4. If you have additional sources of funding to attend this convention
  5. What you hope to gain by attending the convention

Please submit your application by Tuesday, June 30, 2026, by emailing a Word Document with your statement, your full name, your primary affiliation (e.g., university affiliation) and the email address associated with your SCG membership to Catherine Ju (chj00002@mix.wvu.edu) and Maayra Butt (buttm1@unlv.nevada.edu). Up to 7 trainees will receive the $250 Student Travel Award. Following the conference, we will invite the award recipients to provide a brief written statement about their experience at the GSA 2026 convention that will be included in a future SCG newsletter. We will ask recipients to write about what they gained from attending the conference, what this funding meant to them, what the presented (if applicable) and/or how this travel award furthered their interest in geropsychology.

For questions about the application, award process, or follow-up requirements, please contact Student Representatives Catherine Ju (chj00002@mix.wvu.edu) and Maayra Butt (buttm1@unlv.nevada.edu). For other questions, please contact the Awards Committee Chair, Dr. Jennifer Moye (jennifer.moye@va.gov).

We look forward to receiving your applications!
